Electronic proofs
Village Press can provide proofs as PDF files before going to print.
Many customers prefer PDF proofs to the hard-copy variety because they save time.
There are a few things you should bear in mind about PDF proofs.
First, colour on screen looks different to colour on paper. Be aware of these differences for projects where colour accuracy is necessary. On-screen representations of Pantone® metallics vary considerably from their appearance on paper.
The PDF will appear as though printed on smooth, white paper. Be aware that the ink colours will be affected by the colour and texture of the paper you select.
PDF proofs are supplied to print at low-resolution. If you print them at your home or office, the quality will be unrepresentative of the finished product. In addition, your software may display a PDF with artefacts, including image borders and distorted text, that will not appear in print.
We advise clients to view a hard-copy proof and/or Pantone swatches where possible. For large or complex jobs, we may also be able to organise a press check as your job goes into production.
Naturally, Village Press is always happy to supply a digital proof on paper for your job, free of charge.
Village Press supplies digital proofs in Adobe PDF format. You can view these using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader software. In general, Acrobat or Reader version 4.0 or later is required - however a more recent version is recommended. Other software, such as Xpdf and Mac OS X Preview, can also be used.
